Marine Turbo Box:
(Click on pictures to enlarge, use "Back" button
to return here.)

The "de-luxe" version is the Turbo Box, in essence a bulkhead boxed version of the dish. This unit works with external aerials, which can still usually be mounted inside the boat. Mounting is easy on most boats - for example behind the instruments or in the engine bay with the aerials mounted on an outside surface. The units will also work if the aerials are positioned behind GRP/Plastic panels.
It requires 10 to 26 volts at around 0.12 of an amp when live (at 12 volts), slightly more on peaks. If the unit is connected to an ignition source, it will go into sleep mode, drawing even less current!

The very successful 'workhorse', is the solution for those boat owners who want "a little bit more".
Small and rugged, it can quickly be installed by most owners
themselves. There are just three connections to make - Live, Earth and
Ignition (if required).
Inside the metal case is a sensitive GPS
receiver and a powerful radio transmitter. With most boats, mounting is
easy. For example place it behind the instrument panel, or in the radar arch. As most dashboards are non metallic, often
the units will work underneath and out of site.
It requires 10 to 25 volts at around 0.12 of an amp when live (at 12
volts), slightly more on peaks. If the unit is connected to an ignition
source, it will go into sleep mode, drawing even less current! In the
event the boat's battery is disconnected the unit will operate for
approximately 7 hours on its own rechargeable internal battery*.
For most owners, all that is needed to view the output from this unit, is to connect to the website map using any computer connected to the Internet (preferably broadband). Setting this up on your home computer will allow your family/colleagues to see where you are at all times.
There is also an option for Corporate Users (Yacht Clubs, Charter Companies and other multi-users) of using an 'always on Internet connection' (broadband) and a copy of a suitable mapping program e.g. Microsoft Autoroute. The boat's current position and course taken can then be tracked. Alternatively, using Microsoft Mappoint enables several boats' positions and courses taken to be displayed
This unit offers the advantage of an optional "data" line that can be arranged to send an alert when, for example, the shore power fails or a bilge pump starts.
* Optional extra-cost option.
